Kim Mitchell. Wildlife Artist.
Hailing from the deep south of New Zealand, I have had an interest in wildlife from a young age. After studying Journalism and Geography, travelling the world, and doing my time in tourism, I felt it was finally time to marry my two loves together; art and animals.

Working predominately in acrylic paint, I strive to create a sense of realism in each work, bringing the subject to life. This desire to create realistic artworks is inspired from the many wildlife documentaries I've watched over the years, where the imagery captivates all of my senses. Whilst you cannot have a real lion hanging around the house, it is hoped that an art work can give that same sense of appreciation, just without the dangers! By detailing every wrinkle or tuft of fur it shows how unique and imperfect every species can be. This in turn adds a sense of reality beyond the realistic style of the painting.

I also pledge to donate a percentage of some sales to conservation charities around the world, aiding the efforts of the many other wildlife lovers doing their bit to ensure the survival of such magnificent animals. Therefore, my overall wish for my art is that it serves a greater purpose than simply being a painting on a wall. Not only do I hope each piece evokes that adoration and awe for the subject species, but helps in making a change for their real world counterparts.
